How to Become a Freemason: the Step-by-Step way to join a Lodge

Scottish Rite Freemason Maynard Edwards explains the step-by-step process of becoming a Freemason, and includes some resources for men interested in taking the next step into the fraternity. (YouTube Channel Name: Scottish Rite of Freemasonry SJ-USA Direct Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS5YXJDm6RY)

Welcome to Ashlar Lodge No. 98's Website

Located in Downtown St. Augustine

Ashlar Lodge No. 98 F&AM was chartered on January 18, 1887, however, Freemasonry has been in St. Augustine far longer than that.  Read more here.

You may have heard that Freemasonry is an "invite only" organization.  This is not true...

While we do have a petitioning process, we do not actively recruit members.  You may have heard the old saying:
"2B1, ASK 1"

As Freemasons, we prefer to have our members join because they are interested in becoming a Freemason as opposed to joining because they are being pressured to by other members.

We also want to make sure you fit in our lodge, as each lodge is different.  We want to know you and have you get to know us before you petition to become a member.  Being a Mason takes a lot of work, and isn't something that happens very quickly.  It will take commitment and is something you have to want to do.

If you are interested in becoming a Freemason or at least in knowing more, feel free to join us on a first of third Thursday of the month for dinner at 6:30pm and get to know more about us.

Desiderata - Words to Live By

One of our Brothers pointed out that the poem Desiderata incorporates our Masonic principles, and suggested we share it. This poem was written by Max Ehrmann in 1927, and its parallels to Freemasonry are undeniable.
